Abbey is a nurse. Andrew is a mechanic. Individually, they use their talents to fix things. But together they are simply a vision of love. Though they know as well as you do that love is not simple. Love is complex, like the maintaining of vehicles, like the caring for people.

Your body wakes up, your legs walk, your mouth eats, your intestines digest, and you close your eyes and fall sleep. Your car turns on when you insert the key; it moves when you put it in gear and press on the gas pedal. But the body is more complex than wake, eat, sleep, repeat. Just like there is more to a vehicle than transportation.  There is a complex system that makes these things work the way they are supposed to.

Like love.  Like cameras. Like photography.

Abbey and Andrew chose to have their Indianapolis engagement session on private property. The grounds were bountiful. It was obvious that someone had maintained them, and we got to enjoy the benefit of their labor. Beautiful doesn’t just happen. I am so thankful that someone worked on this land and that Abbey and Andrew and I were given the chance to benefit.

The sound of waterfalls crashed as I took photos. I love to capture visual moments that also have sound. Sound adds meaning. A look can provoke longing when the eyes are focused at one thing and you know the mouth just said or is about to say, “I love you.” I aim to capture not only the visual, but the moments when sounds occur. We did not go here to capture waterfalls, but their presence added to the magic of this session.

Abbey and Andrew will be married in the spring, at the Omni Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. We hope that weather will be perfect, but we can’t control weather so we remain thankful for the things that will be perfect. Like the love between Abbey and Andrew, like the visual moments that will occur with the sounds of laughter, of kisses and hugs and smiles. We know that in the sounds of Abbey’s and Andrew’s commitment, perfection exists. Not because their love is inherent (though it is inherent), but because it has been cared for.
